28.7 Pendant Lamp By Bocci

28.7 is a random configuration of seven 28 pendants hung from a round
canopy. The pendants are designed to hang in a random confi guration at
times clustering and grouping together and others trailing off. The result is an
ambient installation or field of light. The pendant drop lengths on this fixture are adjustable up to the specified maximum.
28 is an exploration of specificity in manufacturing. Instead of designing form
itself, here the intent was to design a system of making that yields form.
Individual 28 pendants result from a complex glass blowing technique whereby air pressure is intermittently introduced into and then removed from a glass matrix which is intermittently heated and then rapidly cooled. The result is a distorted spherical shape with a composed collection of imploded inner
shapes, one of which acts as a shade for the light source.
Standard 28s are made with clear glass exterior spheres and milk white
interior lamp holder cavities. 28s are possible with infinite versatility in color
compositions, sizes, and shapes.

Bocci is a design and manufacturing company based in Vancouver and Berlin. Founded in 2005 under the creative directorship of Omer Arbel, Bocci is committed to fostering a lateral and open-ended relationship between creative direction and craft.
The company launched with one lighting design, ‘14’, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. Bocci’s growing portfolio of sculptural lighting is developed, engineered, and fabricated in-house, through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality, and scale.

In 2015, Bocci transformed a historic Berlin building into a showroom and archive. ‘Bocci 79’ inhabited a 2,200 m² / 23,600 sq ft former courthouse, constructed in 1896, and showcased over a decade of works by Omer Arbel, ranging from pieces in progress, prototypes, and ideas, to the complete range of catalog pieces developed for Bocci.

Bocci 79 closed in June 2020 and we are currently working on our new, permanent Berlin showroom which will open soon.
